The island has an area of ​​80 square kilometers of which 60 percent is under French administration. Southern part of the Netherlands is more populated. This divisions exist since time immemorial – from the time of the 17th century. There live almost 80 thousand people. The main towns are Philipsburg (Dutch) and Marigot (French). The highest hill measuring 424 meters and because it must be low over the aircraft landing beaches full of tourists. Overall, the island is located on the border between the British and French territory. It is very hot – and yes – it is a very popular holiday destination.

Island was named, according to legend, when Christopher Columbus docked here on his second voyage to the New World (during Feast day of Saint Martin of Tours). Back then there lived indigenous Caribbean Indians. But newcomers from America drove them out. In 1648, France and the Dutch agreed to divide the island between Their two territories, with the signing of the Treaty of Concordia.
